Description / Focus:
Learning objectives: At the end of the session the participants will: • Be able to describe the key elements and steps of the Standards-based Management and Recognition (SBMR) approach to improve the performance and quality of health services • Be familiar with SBMR programs working to strengthen HIV/AIDS service delivery in Ethiopia, Jamaica, Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa • Be familiar with a performance assessment tool and learn how to use it to identify performance gaps • Be able to identify the main causes of performance gaps and interventions to correct them Session description: During a two-hour session, the group will participate in small-team exercises, interactive presentations, and plenary discussions in order to become familiar with a practical and streamlined approach to improve the performance and quality of HIV/AIDS service delivery. The participants will begin learning about how the Standards-based Management and Recognition approach helps to overcome several important constraints of traditional quality approaches and effectively improves health services performance. The group will review the main characteristics, steps, and basic tool of the approach. Finally, the participants will discuss the advantages and challenges of the approach presented.
